Smackdown Live was anticipated to be an excellent show this week as we are just eleven days away from WrestleMania. Following a stupendous episode of RAW, the blue brand had some excellent matches. There were some unforeseen surprises this week, and the show definitely met the expectations of the fans.
There is no denying that the appalling incident this week was when the Smackdown Women's Championship changed hands. Surprisingly, Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka which was a rematch of WrestleMania 34. Kofi Kingston became the number one contender of the most coveted prize of the blue brand after Big E and Xavier Woods won a Tag Team Gauntlet match.
Smackdown Live held a dream match this week when AJ Styles tussled with Kurt Angle. It was the final match of Angle on Smackdown Live. However, Styles won the bout by disqualification after Randy Orton interfered with an RKO. The Miz challenged Shane McMahon in a Fall Counts Anywhere match at Metlife Stadium which was accepted by the latter, and the two men had a fierce segment.
Here we discuss three things WWE quietly told us on Smackdown Live this week:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3 New Day could become Smackdown Tag Team Champions in New Jersey
The New Day has been the focal point of Smackdown Live in the last few weeks. Kofi Kingston gave a stellar performance last week when he defeated five superstars in Gauntlet match before being pinned by Daniel Bryan. The other two New Day members Xavier Woods and Big E were the stars of this week.
Following an unfair treatment of Kofi Kingston last week, the New Day threatened to quit WWE this week. Vince McMahon promised a WrestleMania match to Kofi Kingston, but Xavier and Big E needed to win a Tag Team Gauntlet match. The two men won the Gauntlet match after overpowering five other teams.
The victory in Tag Team Gauntlet match sent Kofi Kingston to WrestleMania 35, but the result could be also beneficial for Xavier Woods and Big E. Considering the Smackdown Tag Team Champions Usos still do not have an opponent in New Jersey, the two New Day members could be the next challengers.
In fact, the Usos took part in the Gauntlet match but New Day did not pin the twin brothers. Jimmy and Jay forfeited the match which suggests that they could be facing New Day. Xavier and Big E can win the twin belts at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
#2 Charlotte Flair could compete in two matches at WrestleMania 35
WWE stunned everyone when Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka on Smackdown Live. It was undoubtedly one of the most shocking moments in recent memory. Since Asuka was the Smackdown Women's Champion, a women's fatal 4-way match was supposed to take place on Smackdown Live this week. However, the match was replaced by the Smackdown Women's Championship match.
It will be interesting to see if Asuka will get a rematch next week on Smackdown Live. The Empress of Tomorrow might also demand a rematch at the Grandest Stage of Them All. It could gravitate the attention of the WWE Universe if the two women tussle at Showcase of Immortals next month.
Charlotte Flair could participate in two title matches at the Show of Shows. The Smackdown Women's Champion is scheduled to main event WrestleMania as she will take part in the RAW Women's Championship match. But the Queen might compete in another bout if Asuka demands a rematch. Becky Lynch attained a similar feat this year when the Man fought Asuka at Royal Rumble, and she went on to win the Women's Royal Rumble match.
#1 Kofi Kingston is set to become the WWE Champion after overcoming all the obstacles
Kofi Kingston is finally heading to WrestleMania after defeating all the odds on Smackdown Live. Vince McMahon coerced Kofi Kingston to cross numerous hurdles as the latter climbed to the top of the ladder as an underdog. The other New Day members lent helping hands to Kingston this week as Kingston is set to compete for the most coveted prize of Smackdown Live at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
It has been a turbulent journey for the New Day member which began last month. Kofi Kingston was the replacement of Mustafa Ali at Elimination Chamber match as he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Kingston lasted thirty-one minutes inside the steel structure, and he became a crowd favorite. Subsequently, Kingston was replaced by Kevin Owens at Fastlane, and he was given an insuperable task in the Gauntlet match last week.
It is no secret that the storyline is similar to Daniel Bryan's journey in 2014. Similar to Bryan, Vince McMahon calls Kingston a B+ Player. Ironically, Bryan will be the one who will be facing the B+ Player, Kofi Kingston. With such an astounding storyline, Kingston is set to grab the WWE title at the Showcase of Immortals.
