Back during the Rock 'N' Wrestling Connection Era, fans had almost no outlets to get the inside scoop on what was happening behind the scenes in their favorite wrestling companies. The internet boom in the '90s changed everything, and news/rumor websites started getting incredibly popular among the pro-wrestling fans.

The arrival of the internet made a huge difference in regards to a fan's perception of pro-wrestling shows that they religiously watched every single week. Dirtsheets began spoiling major news way before it happened on TV. This phenomenon gave rise to a bunch of interesting and memorable moments where fans came into the arena with a completely changed stance. In the following list, we'll take a look at some instances where fans turned on babyfaces after a piece of major news broke on the web.

At Vengeance 2002, The Rock met Undertaker and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat Match for Undertaker's WWE title. The three-way match-up ended with The Rock coming out the victor and bagging the title. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar had won the King of the Ring tournament and was given a shot at the WWE title. The big match was set for SummerSlam 2002. In the weeks leading up to The Biggest Party of the Summer, things were fine. It all changed during the event though.

The main event kicked off and the fans seemed to be into it. Lesnar and The Rock had an incredible back and forth, but the fans suddenly turned on The Rock in the midst of the match. The reason? Thanks to the power of the web, it was public knowledge by that point that The Rock was leaving WWE following SummerSlam, to resume his Hollywood career. After the show went off the air, The Rock cut a heel promo, giving a taste of what was to come when he would return in early 2003.

One of the biggest examples of what the internet is capable of doing is the following case featuring the three-way real-life story between Edge & Lita, and Matt Hardy. In April 2005, Lita was still a babyface, and was wth Kane in an on-screen capacity.

Lita and a heel Trish Stratus had an in-ring exchange on an episode of Raw, but the crowd was surprisingly anti-Lita, who came down to the ring on crutches. The news of what happened between Lita and Matt Hardy was all over the internet by that time, and fans didn't shy away from giving Lita a piece of their mind.

At Survivor Series 2003, Goldberg confronted Brock Lesnar during a backstage interview and the seeds for a future dream match were planted immediately. Lesnar and Goldberg met again in the backstage area, moments before the Royal Rumble match in 2004. Soon after, Lesnar cost Goldberg a shot at the world title by interfering in the free-for-all and hitting him with an F-5. At WrestleMania 20, the Madison Square Garden crowd booed both Goldberg and Lesnar out of the building, after rumors had come out, stating that both Superstars were leaving the company immediately after 'Mania. Chants of "You sold out" were heard throughout the match, along with a chorus of boos. Goldberg and Lesnar were both hit with Stone Cold Stunners after the match was over, to a loud ovation from the rabid crowd inside MSG. It would be years before either of them returned to WWE again.
