Fastlane, the final WWE PPV before WrestleMania, is almost upon us. A multitude of matches have been set up from both brands, but none is as controversial and intriguing as the outing between Bryan and Owens.
The match was originally supposed to be Kofi Kingston's chance to win the title after struggling for 11 long years, but his dreams were crushed after Mr. McMahon replaced him with a returning Owens on SmackDown. This might be a good sign for Kofi going forward, as he will get his shot at an even bigger stage, WrestleMania 35.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
But before we go there, let's take a look at how the match between Bryan and Owens could end and what could it mean for the WrestleMania plans concerning the WWE title.
#3 Bryan pins Owens clean
This is the least likely scenario of them all. Bryan and Kevin Owens could go on to have an absolute clinic in the middle of the ring, with Bryan coming out on top without any help from Rowan, or some other questionable shenanigans.
This is why Bryan needs a clean pin. Even though he is the champion, Bryan has been pinned multiple times over the past few weeks. Kofi and Owens have pinned him on separate occasions. He needs to get an actual clean win over a major opponent to cement himself as being a legit threat to his challengers.
Bryan pinning Owens in the middle of the ring would take out Owens from the title picture, leading to a singles match between Bryan and Kofi at Mania.
#2 The Bryan Family forms
Bryan has a ruthless sidekick with him in Eric Rowan, but the puzzle still looks incomplete. What would help this scenario, is a long-awaited return of Luke Harper, who could join Rowan as being Bryan's lackey.
Bryan spent the entirety of early 2014 feuding with The Wyatt Family, even going on to have a brief stint as a part of the family. Five years later, Bryan securing both of the monsters would lead to his story with The Wyatt Family coming full circle.
After a hard fought match, a returning Harper attacks Owens with the referee being distracted by Rowan. This leads to Bryan winning the match in controversial fashion, and moving on to The New Day, with the WWE Universe getting to witness a 6-man tag between The Bryan Family and The New Day on a SmackDown episode before Mania.
#1 The New Day interferes
What Vince McMahon did with Kofi was a blatant abuse of power. It crushed Kofi's dreams of becoming the WWE champion after he had spent a decade crawling and clutching to win the gold.
The New Day announced on tonight's SmackDown that they will be there at the Fastlane PPV. This is an indication that The New Day could get involved in the WWE title match. This makes complete sense as Kofi was deceived out of the WWE title opportunity and ruining the match with an interference would be the exact way to send a message to Vince McMahon.
The New Day interferes and beats up Bryan and Rowan, but that's still not enough as Bryan ends up with a sneak victory via a small package on Owens. On SmackDown, Vince finally gives in to Kofi and makes a triple threat match for the WWE title at Mania, finally giving Kofi his moment at glory.
