WWE has loved to emphasize on wrestlers’ nationalities in order to establish them in their company. Usually, wrestlers billed from the USA are portrayed as babyfaces while wrestlers billed from other countries are portrayed as heels.

Examples of successful heels billed from out of the US include Rusev, Sheamus, and Cesaro. Since the WWE hasn’t pulled off such a gimmick recently, they could do it with Bobby Roode who was born in Canada.

A heel is most successful when he is against the host country, and the WWE could push Bobby Roode as an anti-American Canadian who wants to dominate the red brand. He could even be paired up with fellow Canadian wrestler Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn (whenever he returns).

This could lead to interesting feuds with all men involved remaining relevant and not falling into the low-card of the show. Making Team Canada right after the WWE World Cup could also keep the tournament relevant if the WWE plans to make it an annual event.
