Prior to The Shield's formation in WWE, none of the three members (Roman, Dean and Seth) were very close friends, but they have definitely become so with their years spent together on the road and inside the squared circle. While The Shield was (and still is) only an on-screen faction, like most groups in professional wrestling, the members tend to become fairly close simply stemming from the fact that they are always amongst each other.

Despite having two completely different personalities, Seth and Roman have meshed very well on and off-screen, and they continue to spend lots of their road time together.
