#5. Scripted WWE injury: Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio stepped into a feud with The Monday Night Messiah Seth Rollins earlier in the year which has since allowed his son Dominik to make his official WWE in-ring debut.
A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE
It was known throughout the feud that Mysterio's WWE contract was set to expire and the former World Champion was still negotiating a new one while remaining part of the storyline. The Wrestling Observer noted that the Eye for an Eye match back at Extreme Rules was The Creative team's way of writing Mysterio off TV so that he could sign a new contract and then make his return.
WWE noted following the show that the damage to Mysterio's eye didn't affect his optic nerve which meant that his eyesight could be restored in the future.
Mysterio's eye injury is all part of this lengthy storyline, much like Aleister Black's after he was attacked by Murphy. It's unknown how long Mysterio will be forced to perform with a patch over one of his eyes, but it is clear that the former World Champion wasn't injured at Extreme Rules.
