Alberto Del Rio was fired from WWE in August 2014 for "unprofessional conduct". Del Rio was not happy with WWE for quite a while and some backstage incident resulted in his departure.

But at Hell in a Cell 2015, he made a shocking return to the company. No one predicted that it was going to happen. He answered John Cena's US Open Challenge and went on to win the title from Cena. But his return was always going to fail as WWE booked him in an awful gimmick. He was paired with Zeb Colter and the duo was called "MexAmerica". On August 18, 2016, Del Rio was suspended for violating WWE's Wellness Policy. He then exercised an opt-out clause in his contract and WWE finally released him on September 9, 2016. WWE fans never cared for what Del Rio had to offer after those 5 minutes at Hell in a Cell. WWE can be blamed for his poor run but Del Rio didn't do much good from his side either.
