The launch of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has changed the professional wrestling landscape considerably. Tony Khan, the founder of AEW, aims to take it to number one position in a few years. He is ready to either poach or sign WWE Superstars in a bid to attract viewers.
AEW has already signed Chris Jericho who will make sure he gets top wrestlers from WWE. Few wrestlers who are unhappy in WWE would intend to switch sides if they are offered more money or perks.
Here is a list of three WWE wrestlers, AEW could hire and two they must not.
#5 Sign - Goldust
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Goldust comes from a family of wrestlers. His father is Dusty Rhodes, and half-brother is Cody Rhodes. At 50, he is as awesome in the ring as he was a few years ago. WWE did not pay the Rhodes brothers the kind of respect which they deserved as a tag team.
Cody is an executive vice-president at AEW hence it is quite natural he would intend to hire Goldust and give him few glorious years. The Bizarre One could use his flamboyance to further promote AEW and take it to greater heights. There is a strong rumor he may leave for AEW.
#4 Avoid - Jinder Mahal
Jinder Mahal won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2017 and WWE US Championship in 2018. Given his record, he was unable to gain much popularity in WWE as fans believed he was not skilled enough to hold such prestigious titles. His mic skills are also mediocre which does him no good.
The Modern Day Maharaja can blame WWE on badly written storylines, but it would do AEW no good to sign him. He would not make a huge impact there as well.
#3 Sign - Randy Orton
Randy Orton is a third generation wrestler and one of the most decorated WWE wrestlers of all time. A nine-time WWE Champion and four-time World Heavyweight Champion, Orton has done everything in WWE. The only thing that can lure him is money and a schedule that he would want to work. AEW can afford to buy him for huge sums of money and utilize his heel persona to their advantage. There were news reports that he has openly discussed his willingness to talk to AEW.
AEW has promised to be more creative, so Orton can deliver value by utilizing his experience and building himself up as a top heel.
#2 Avoid - Dolph Ziggler
Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked Dolph Ziggler on the ninth place in 2013. Since then, he has not had a great run in WWE. Ziggler is not seen often on Raw, which seems to suggest that WWE does not give him the same push as they did six to seven years ago. In an interview, The Showoff said, "It’s weird because for the last two years I’ve had somewhat of a handshake agreement, kind of behind closed doors deal with WWE. I’ve been able to do a lot of things, on my own, not at WWE, just because of the relationship we’ve had for the last 14 years."
He is busy with his stand-up comedy career, so AEW should just let him pursue his passion. At 38, there's little Ziggler can do to revive his career.
#5 Sign - Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is one wrestler, AEW would want to have by their side. His contract with WWE is about to expire, and some say he may return to UFC. Vince has a soft spot for him and that is evident in the power and perks The Beast Incarnate enjoys in WWE. Khan would want to hire him so that he can be a crowd puller.
Khan has a money truck that is way more than what Vince owns. Clearly, they can afford to offer huge sums of money to Lesnar and also let him juggle his MMA career. This will be a coup of sorts, similar to what WCW did to WWF when they signed Hulk Hogan in the 1990s.
If AEW signs him up, it will be a huge victory for Khan and a humongous loss for Vince. A lot will also depend on Paul Heyman, who is reportedly negotiating on behalf of The Beast.
