#2 Brock Lesnar squashed Cain Velasquez
As soon as Cain Velasquez declared an interest in pro wrestling, rumors soon began that he could join WWE and work with the man who he once defeated for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, Brock Lesnar.
Velasquez, who had previously trained at WWE’s Performance Center, competed in two matches for Mexican promotion AAA in August-September 2019 before officially signing with WWE in October.
With Rey Mysterio by his side, he immediately targeted Brock Lesnar on the first episode of SmackDown on FOX, setting up a WWE Championship match between the two men at the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.
The nine-years-in-the-making rematch had a lot of hype surrounding it – so much so that, along with Braun Strowman vs. Tyson Fury, it even had its own press conference – but the match turned out to be one of the least competitive of Brock Lesnar’s WWE career.
“The Beast” locked in the Kimura Lock on Velasquez, who submitted after just 2 minutes and 10 seconds, before hitting his rival with an F-5 onto a steel chair.
The storyline continued with Rey Mysterio facing Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, but Velasquez’s injury problems prevented him from returning to WWE television before he was given his release in April 2020.
