In 2010, The Miz won the Money In The Bank briefcase and successfully cashed it in on Randy Orton on an episode of RAW to win his first and only WWE title. It was clear as day that John Cena would get a shot against The Miz sooner rather than later. The Miz's sidekick, Alex Riley, met Cena in a few matches around this time, and in late 2010, Cena defeated Riley by submission.

At WrestleMania 27, John Cena would lose to The Miz, after interference from The Rock. He continued his rivalry with The Miz and had another showdown with Riley in May. Cena registered his third straight win against Riley in this match.
The duo never had a singles match again and the record remained at 3-0 in John Cena's favor. Soon after, Alex Riley turned babyface, following which he teamed up with Cena a handful of times against some of WWE's top villains.
