AJ Styles is one of the current WWE stars who has already begun thinking about hanging up his boots soon. After a legendary and successful career, it's only fitting that someone who is on the same level as him in the ring should get to retire The Phenomenal One.

AJ Styles joined WWE in 2016 and didn't need much introduction about who he was due to his achievements in various promotions, like NJPW and TNA. Similarly, he went on to rack up his list of accolades in the Stamford-based promotion as well.

After months of absence, The Phenomenal One returned to television a few weeks ago but was sidelined with an injury during a match the very same night. As it turns out, his recent return was reportedly set to be part of his farewell tour, plans for which have been shelved currently. Due to this, it wouldn't be a shock if he officially announced his retirement soon, and several stars could be his final opponents.

For this list, we will look at three WWE Superstars who could fit the bill to retire AJ Styles.

A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.

#3. Carmelo Hayes and AJ Styles could officially have a WWE feud

Carmelo is one of the fastest-rising stars in WWE today, and his character and skills continue to shine on the Friday show every week, especially with his best of series with Andrade. Due to this, it wouldn't be a shock if he was picked to be Styles' final opponent.

When AJ injured his leg on SmackDown, he was also up against Carmelo, which helped build a history between them already. There is also the thought that Styles may want to pass the torch to Hayes, helping the younger star elevate his name and his heel persona.

#2. AJ Styles could run it back with Shinsuke Nakamura

One of the stars in WWE that Styles shares a long history with is Shinsuke Nakamura, who joined the company after AJ did. Both men had a notable feud in NJPW, but that didn't exactly translate well when they joined the Stamford-based promotion. However, they can leave fans with a better memory of it.

Styles can announce his retirement and out comes Nakamura, who can act as if he will congratulate AJ but attacks him instead to kick off their feud. Both men are now more accustomed to a WWE setup and they haven't faced each other in a while, making it a refreshing feud but also something fans can reminisce over for Styles' time in Japan.

#1. Finn Balor vs AJ Styles might be an epic clash

The Phenomenal One and Finn Balor is also a pair of wrestlers who have connected roots in wrestling, one that started even before joining WWE. As many may remember, the latter founded one of the most dominant stables in wrestling history, The Bullet Club in NJPW. After he left for the Stamford-based promotion, Styles took over the position.

Their history as former leaders of Bullet Club and overall success in Japan is something that has been touched upon in the Stamford-based promotion for a few years now, and it's an angle that always works due to their personal background. Also, since Balor is playing a heel, retiring a well-loved name like AJ could boost his character and maybe even be the push he needs to get back to the world title scene.
