As 2016 was nearing its end, WWE gave us one of the biggest shockers of the year, when Triple H turned on Seth Rollins and helped Kevin Owens win the Universal title on an episode of WWE RAW. This was Owens' first and only Universal title win. Rollins and The Game had been pretty close for a while, and it was a legit surprise to see Triple H turn on The Architect. Owens and Rollins kicked off a rivalry and met inside Hell In A Cell at the namesake pay-per-view.
Chris Jericho, who was Owens' friend at the time, got involved in the match and Owens ended up retaining his belt. A year later, Kevin Owens was the top heel on WWE SmackDown and had brutally attacked Mr. McMahon on TV. This didn't sit well with Shane McMahon, who began a feud with Owens. The duo eventually met inside Hell In A Cell, to put an end to the rivalry. The match lasted for almost 40 minutes and saw both competitors beating the tar out of each other. In a surprising turn of events, Sami Zayn helped Owens defeat Shane McMahon in the end. McMahon would go on to team up with Daniel Bryan and defeat Sami and Owens at WrestleMania 34.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
