Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns have been close friends since they first started running together as The Shield after taking an instant liking towards each other. Ambrose often said that Reigns was his "road wife" because of the amount of time the duo spent with each other on the road.

Ambrose said the following about Roman Reigns having to leave the WWE:

“I don’t know what to do with myself. Roman’s been my road wife, my best friend, for six years. He’s spent more time in a car with me than he has with his own kids the past six years.”
