Big Van Vader is known for his work in the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). After joining the New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1987, he started wrestling with a black mask.

On May 31, 1998, at the WWE's Over the Edge pay-per-view, Vader faced Kane in a Mask vs. Mask match.

The match ended with Vader losing eventually and therefore, he was unmasked. This proved to be his most significant loss in the WWE, and after that, the company made him a jobber.

He had been battling with a weak heart for over two years, and despite undergoing numerous surgeries, years of abuse his body had taken resulted in him passing away. Even though he was not a major attraction in the WWE and also never won any title in the company but still, he was a big deal for his die-hard fans.

He made his last WWE appearance on April 2016 at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony where he inducted Stan Hansen into the Hall of Fame.
