A 33-year-old former WWE Superstar has claimed that they asked for their release from the company.
Lacey Evans departed the company in August after a bizarre tenure on the main roster. Evans went through many iterations of her character on the main roster, but none of them connected with the WWE Universe.
She was known as the Sassy Southern Belle before the company attempted to repackage her in a series of vignettes in which Evans discussed her time in the Marines, and coming from a family that struggled with addiction. However, when she returned to television, she was a heel again and had been running in place on the main roster ever since before her release from the company in August.
During an interview with WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Mac Davis on the Road Trip After Hours podcast, Lacey Evans (Macey Estrella) shared that she requested her release from the company and is enjoying the ability to spend more time with her family.
“Absolutely. Mac, I’m mean as hell. I don’t know if people realize [this], I’m one mean son of a gun. And I think that was probably my fault, at requesting my release. There’s no hard feelings with WWE, it’s great, but that lifestyle is for people who when they hold that title above their head, that’s what makes them feel significant or feel like they’ve accomplished something. Man, me being able to make my kids food and cook for my old man, that, to me, is worth all the weight in gold. But no, I can’t say no, but I would love to get my hands on a few people," she said. Bill Apter on Lacey Evans' departure from WWE
Legendary journalist Bill Apter believes Lacey Evans is going to wind up making a fortune outside of the company.
Following her exit from the company, Evans has launched a subscription-based service for fans. Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine show, Bill Apter claimed that the former superstar is going to make a fortune online following her exit.
"I understand now that she's opening a family restaurant or something. But I have a feeling that she's going to make a fortune on Fans Only, and she's going to show a lot more skin than she's ever shown in WWE, and she's going to be making a lot of money." [3:27 - 4:22]
Lacey Evans had one of the strangest careers on WWE's main roster in recent memory. She had the look and the talent, but for whatever reason, it simply didn't work out. It will be fascinating to see if she gets the opportunity to continue her wrestling career elsewhere down the line.
