Gunther will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam on August 3. The pair's rivalry went up a notch this past Monday on WWE RAW when The Ring General belittled The Archer of Infamy's past. The champion has backup in his Judgment Day co-members, which isn't the case for the challenger.

This is why Gunther should use his skills to force a name from his past, Alexander Wolfe's return. In 2021, after his contract expired, the former WWE NXT Tag Team Champion left the company. The German star has since been competing in the independent circuit and is the reigning Progress Wrestling Atlas Champion.

However, this new era of WWE has allowed partnerships with other promotions to help further their storylines. A mass incoming of TNA talent has emerged on NXT: The Rascalz, Jordynne Grace, and Joe Hendry have popped up on the developmental brand so far.

Alexander Wolfe is the perfect candidate to help Gunther become the World Heavyweight Champion by attacking Damien Priest. Nobody would see it coming, and it would make for an iconic SummerSlam moment, with Imperium bringing back a former member in the process, even if it was one-night only.

Gunther might need help at WWE SummerSlam

Gunther heads to Cleveland Browns Stadium in Detroit in August as a lone wolf. His Imperium right-hand man, Ludwig Kaiser, is out injured with a rib injury.

Given his opponent's strengths, the Austrian star could do with a helping hand at SummerSlam. Damien Priest has his Judgment Day stablemates such as Finn Balor and JD McDonagh to call upon if needed. There has been friction within the group lately, but they still remain collectively a formidable group.

Gunther is the only current Imperium member competing, as Kaiser is out injured and Giovanni Vinci was kicked out of the group in April. He was later drafted to WWE SmackDown, meaning a reunion is highly unlikely or desired.

Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci attacked Alexander Wolfe on an episode of NXT in May 2021. This was his final appearance with the company as his contract expired soon after.

Alexander Wolfe is open to returning to WWE

Alexander Wolfe hasn't ruled out returning, although he insisted he'd make sure to study a contract proposal closely. The former Imperium member spoke in August 2023 about the possibility of a return.

He said:

"Sure, I would be interested, of course... If I (were to) sign again with WWE or whatever the company, this time, I probably have a better look at that contract. I would love to get more a fair play in the contract situation. There's a lot of details in there and you have to be wary of what to do and what to sign." [H/T - Fightful Select].

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has been more lenient with talent regarding contracts and ventures outside the company. If Gunther were to recruit Alexander Wolfe as an ally, the latter might need to withdraw from upcoming events with German Wrestling Federation (GFW) and Progress Wrestling.

That might not be too much of an issue, given that WWE has partnered with several promotions of late. In exchange for his return to Imperium, it could help promote the companies Wolfe is currently competing in.

Damian Priest would remain strong in defeat via outside interference

Damian Priest has somewhat surprised many with his current title reign, as many doubted his title credentials initially. The 41-year-old cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL.

Priest has since successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship on three occasions. He beat Jey Uso at Backlash: France, McIntyre at Clash at the Castle, and Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank.

The Archer of Infamy has been booked strong, and he's carried the championship well in the ring and on the microphone. He's undergoing a slow babyface turn, and this showed when he was mocked by Gunther on WWE RAW this week for his 'street upbringing.'

However, Gunther should be a slight favorite to prevail at SummerSlam as the next premium live event scheduled is Bash in Berlin (August 31). That event takes place at Uber Arena, Berlin, Germany, the neighboring country of the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion's homeland of Austria.

Gunther promised to be world champion earlier this year when he returned to Vienna, Austria. He might be able to do so, thanks to help from Alexander Wolfe, who could appear in Berlin and enjoy a homeland return of his own.

Damian Priest would suffer defeat but still look strong as he may not be defeated cleanly. It would be a clever way to get the title off of him if The Judgment Day's inevitable split doesn't happen at SummerSlam 2024.
