4 possible heel turns and returns that could happen at WWE Fastlane 2019

Who's gonna turn on whom?
Who's gonna turn on whom?

The road to WrestleMania is in full flow with just a little more than a month to go for the grandest stage of them all. If you look at the desperate booking of WWE in recent weeks, they are trying to do everything to make people watch the shows.

From pushing Kofi Kingston to beat Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, and Samoa Joe back to back in the gauntlet match, to make him the challenger for the WWE Championship at Fastlane, WWE is trying very hard to please its fans.

Even the sudden NXT call-ups last week seemed like a panic move rather than strategy.

At this point, WWE seriously needs more interesting and engaging storylines, as a lot of the current storylines are turning stale.

There are two possible ways of doing this. One, a face or heel turn that can change the dynamics of any storyline. Second, the return of some superstars to set up fresh and sensible feuds.

In this article, let's take a look at 5 such face/heel turns and returns that can happen at Fastlane that'd help WWE book a better road to WrestleMania. Sound off your thoughts in the comments section below.

#4 Shane McMahon turns on The Miz

How long will the besties co-exist?
How long will the besties co-exist?

First, let me get this thing straight, if the whole point of having the WWE World Cup tournament was to have this feud down the line, then there is something seriously wrong with the creative team.

Though it was interesting to see such an unlikely team of the Miz and Shane-o-mac, the booking just seems weird to me. Everyone knows that this is going to lead to a match down the line between the two of them, most probably at WrestleMania.

The only thing that remains as suspense is, who will turn on whom? Fans are so used to seeing The Miz as a heel, that we can't just stop thinking about him not turning on the man who took his spotlight at Crown Jewel and won the title of "best in the world".

But it's refreshing to see him get over as a babyface as well. Miz is just too good, isn't he? I think it'd be Shane who'll turn on Miz at Fastlane after they fail to win back the SmackDown Tag Team Championship from The Usos.

#3 Kevin Owens returns to challenge Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania

Will the prizefighter return at Fastlane?
Will the prizefighter return at Fastlane?

According to recent rumors, the WWE Championship match for WrestleMania will be Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens. I'll personally love to see Owens return and get booked as the challenger for the top title of the brand.

WWE is airing promos of Kevin Owens whose gimmick is a normal guy who doesn't care about fitness and eats junk food. This will go well with the "save the nature" gimmick of Daniel Bryan.

Now two issues with this are that first - is this storyline good enough for a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania? While we are sure we'll get great promos from both the superstars and definitely a great match as well, is this reason good enough to build a solid feud?

Also, this would mean that Kofi won't win the WWE title at Fastlane and will be out of the title picture. Fans might not be happy with this decision if the company chooses to take this path.

#2 Batista returns to challenge Triple H for a match at WrestleMania

Will The Animal return to prove that he's better than The Game?
Will The Animal return to prove that he's better than The Game?

Last year in October, WWE celebrated the 1000th episode of SmackDown. Among a lot of returns and chaos, one segment that stood out was the return of Evolution.

Ric Flair, Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton came down to the ring to celebrate the monumental occasion. But things didn't go down well between two members of the faction.

During the segment, Batista praised Triple H heavily before stating the fact that he has done everything in the business, except beat him. This led to a huge staredown between The Animal and The Game. The crowd's reaction was especially great as everyone was hyped up to see them brawl in the ring.

While there was no pay-off to this segment, many believe that it was meant to start a feud between Batista and Triple H, that would lead to a match between the two of them at WrestleMania 35.

Batista might as well return at Fastlane and challenge Hunter for a match at the grandest stage of them all. It'll be a great moment to witness and would also add some much-needed star-power to the WrestleMania card.

#1 The New Day turns on Kofi Kingston

Will Big E and Xavier turn on their brother?
Will Big E and Xavier turn on their brother?

Now, this is what I was talking about when I said "interesting and engaging storylines". WWE creative did a great job in making Kofi Kingston a star overnight with his exceptional performance in the gauntlet match on the SmackDown before Elimination Chamber.

Even in the Chamber match, Kofi was booked as the ultimate underdog who came so close to winning the WWE Championship, before Bryan took him out with a running knee to retain the title.

Currently, Kofi is booked to face Daniel Bryan at Fastlane for the WWE Championship. As discussed in the previous point, there is a good chance that Kevin Owens might interfere in this match.

But another possibility, and maybe a more interesting one is the New Day turning on their brother. Imagine Kofi is about to win the title, and just then either Woods or Big E attack him and disqualify Bryan, who'll retain his championship.

They then walk off without Kofi. We end the PPV with an exhausted and surprised Kofi trying to understand what just happened.

That would be a shocker and something which will make fans tune in to SmackDown next week to know the reason for this turn for sure.
