This past Sunday night at Clash of Champions, Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins lost their tag-team titles to the newly formed team of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. The following night on RAW, an enraged Strowman attacked the new champions.
With the Universal Championship picture moving on without Strowman, The Monster Among Men is going to require something to do in the coming weeks and a feud with Ziggler and Roode for the belts looks like it could be the direction he is headed.
The only problem for Strowman is that he doesn't have a partner. The former Wyatt Family member will need to find someone if he is going to try and win the belts back. So with that in mind, let's take a look at the four best candidates.
#4: EC3
It seems like a long time ago now, but fans were once excited to see what EC3 could bring to the WWE main roster. The former Impact star arrived in NXT with so much promise, but an impromptu move to the main roster and some terrible booking has seen him treated like nothing more than a comedy act.
If the WWE does insist on using EC3 as a comedy act (in their defense, he is incredibly funny), then a comedic run with Braun Strowman as tag-team champions could turn out to be a masterstroke.
We have seen that EC3 has excellent comic timing during his brief moments with the 24/7 Championship, and we have also seen that Strowman is perfect at playing the unlikely tag partner thanks to his time in the Mixed-Match Challenge. These guys could turn out to be the tag-team we never knew we always wanted.
#3: Samoa Joe
If there is one thing Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe have in common, it's that they have both been consistently poorly booked for a while now. Both men have been billed as monsters, only to suffer a series of defeats which have slowed their momentum.
Both men now find themselves fluttering around the RAW mid-card scene, and the prospect of either of them having a run with one of the top titles seems increasingly unlikely.
Both Superstars require something to freshen up their careers, so an odd pairing run with the tag-team titles could be just what the doctor ordered. The RAW Tag-Team Championship scene has been struggling for years now, therefore a strong act from Joe and Strowman could help get it back on track.
The pairing could be similar to a team like Big Show & Kane, and they could easily be dominant for quite some time. They could also put on some exceptional big man matches with the likes of the Authors of Pain and The Viking Raiders. It could also give Samoa Joe a chance to have a brief run as a face.
#2: Ricochet
WWE just doesn't seem to know what to do with Ricochet. One week he is putting on an excellent encounter, and next week he is being dragged into a silly storyline.
This past week on RAW, Ricochet was needlessly dragged into the Maria and Mike Kanellis pregnancy storyline. He quickly squashed Kanellis and left the ring. While there is never any harm in having Ricochet pick up a victory, having him involved with the Kanellis storyline probably does him more harm than good.
The former United States Champion needs to find himself a sense of direction, and while there is a strong chance he may be moved over to SmackDown in the coming draft, a run with Braun Strowman and the Raw Tag Team Championships could be a lot of fun.
He is also one of the most talented in-ring workers in the WWE and may be able to get some great work out of Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler. Those two men are equally impressive, therefore a series of matches between these two teams could help get all four of them over.
#1: Rey Mysterio
Like Ricochet, the sight of Rey Mysterio partnering up with Braun Strowman is enough of an attraction. The WWE has long relied on big/little partnerships to get a tag-team over, so given the immense popularity of both Mysterio and Strowman, this tag-team could be a massive hit.
Mysterio's current storyline feels rather directionless. The former World Heavyweight Champion is currently teasing that he is coming towards the end of his career in the WWE, with many speculating he will hand over his mask to his son Dominick when he does finally hang up his boots.
If Mysterio is going to retire, then one last babyface run with the tag-team titles could be a nice way to give him a final taste of gold. The two men also possess very different in-ring styles, so this could lead to some interesting in-ring work from the duo.
They could add something a little bit exciting and fresh to the RAW Tag-Team Division, and they could also add some prestige back to the belts with a lengthy run. Both Superstars are also immensely popular, therefore this could be a good decision from a marketing viewpoint.
