Randy Orton is set to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Bash in Berlin. At 44 years old, The Viper continues to prove that he is one of the top stars in the company.
Recently, reports emerged that Randy Orton had signed a contract extension, which will keep him with the Stamford-based company until 2029. This news has excited fans, who are thrilled about the possibility of witnessing the legendary superstar for at least five more years.
Here are four records Randy Orton can break now that he has re-signed with WWE.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#4. Extend the record for most PPV/PLE appearances of all time
Randy Orton currently holds the record for the most appearances at a WWE pay-per-view, or Premium Live Events as they are known today, with a staggering total of 188 matches. Kane, The Undertaker, and Triple H are next on the list, but all three have retired from in-ring competition, highlighting the remarkable longevity of The Viper.
John Cena is the only active star who comes close to Orton, with 165 matches. However, with Cena now set to retire as an in-ring competitor in 2025, it's safe to say that he won't be able to catch up. Seeing as how WWE's latest PLEs have started to feature fewer matches, this record looks like it may never be broken.
With Orton's recent five-year contract extension, all signs indicate that he will continue to extend this impressive record for years to come.
#3. Most Royal Rumble wins
The Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated WWE events each year, with the winner of the Rumble earning a world title shot at the subsequent WrestleMania. Stone Cold Steve Austin holds the record for the most Rumble wins, with three victories in 1997, 1998, and 2001.
Nine other superstars have won the Royal Rumble twice in their careers, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, and John Cena - who are the only active wrestlers still signed with WWE.
With Randy Orton's recent contract extension, it's possible that he could win at least one more Royal Rumble match, either equaling or breaking Austin's all-time record.
#2. Become the second longest-tenured WWE star in history
Randy Orton has been a WWE lifer throughout his career, known for his loyalty and reliability as one of the company's top stars. It's hard to imagine someone like Orton anywhere else. He often emphasizes the importance of longevity and his desire to emulate a career similar to The Undertaker's.
With Orton's exceptional physical conditioning and recent contract extension, he is set to cross 27 straight years with WWE in 2029. This will make him the second-longest tenured star in history, just behind The Undertaker, who spent more than 29 years with the company.
If Orton stays injury-free, he also has the potential to become the superstar with the second-most appearances in WrestleMania history. Currently, Orton ranks third, with 19 matches at the Grandest Stage of Them All, only behind The Deadman and The Game Triple H.
#1. Most world championship wins
Ric Flair and John Cena currently share the record for the most world championship wins in WWE, with both tied at 16 reigns each. Randy Orton is just behind them with 14.
While Cena seems to be the odds-on favorite to break the record during his retirement tour in 2025, Randy Orton could actually be the favorite in the longer run to end up at the top of the list. The Viper is still competing at an elite level and has a chance to win his 15th world title when he faces Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at Bash in Berlin later this month.
Orton will likely have many such opportunities to add to his championship tally over the next five years. Hence, it will be intriguing to see if he can surpass Flair and Cena to become the most decorated world champion in history.
