When it comes to the Royal Rumble, even casual WWE fans can reel off the most notable record-breakers in the event’s 30-year history.
The majority of fans know who has won more Rumble matches than anyone else (Steve Austin - 3), while it’s common knowledge that Kane has racked up the most eliminations (44) through the years.
However, in doing a bit of research ahead of this year’s show in Philadelphia, we looked back at every Rumble that has ever taken place and stumbled across one stat that you’re almost certainly unaware of.
So, without any further ado, let’s take a look at the only four entrants in Rumble history who have never been eliminated from the match.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 Honourable mentions
When this headline came up, you probably immediately thought of Curtis Axel. However, we’re looking for entrants who have never, EVER been eliminated from the match, not just from one specific Royal Rumble, but from any Rumble in history.
That rules out Axel, who has been eliminated from other Rumbles outside of his 2015 non-elimination after being attacked by Erick Rowan.
It also rules out Randy Savage (1991), Skull (1998), Scotty 2 Hotty (2005), Hornswoggle and Finlay (both 2008), who weren’t eliminated in those respective Rumbles but went on to be eliminated in other years.
#4 Vince McMahon
According to profightdb.com, Vince McMahon has competed in 62 matches throughout his in-ring WWE career, with his first match against Steve Austin in 1998 ending in a draw and his last match against CM Punk in 2012 also ending without a clear winner.
His most notable rivalry was with Austin, of course, and the biggest victory that Mr. McMahon claimed during their legendary feud came in 1999 when he received help from The Rock and the rest of The Corporation to win the Royal Rumble.
Entering at #2 and lasting 56 minutes, Vince spent much of the match in the backstage area after running away from Austin, but the stats say that he was victorious in his one and only Rumble appearance, meaning he has never officially been eliminated from the match.
#3 Big John Studd
The finish to the 1989 Royal Rumble wasn’t quite as controversial as when Vince McMahon won in 1999, with Big John Studd last eliminating Ted DiBiase to emerge victorious.
Nowadays, the Rumble winner not only writes their name into the WWE history books but they also go on to face a champion in a featured match at WrestleMania. Back then, however, it was simply a match with no stipulation and with nothing else but bragging rights riding on it.
Studd didn’t even have a match at that year’s WrestleMania and he left the company just a few months later, meaning he was undefeated in his one and only Rumble appearance.
#2 Spike Dudley
Spike Dudley is best remembered by WWE fans as the third member of the Dudley Boyz and as a former Cruiserweight, European, Hardcore and Tag Team champion.
During his four-year spell in WWE, the pint-sized Dudley featured in just one Royal Rumble (2004), where he entered at #13 and was attacked during his entrance by Kane.
The incident was similar to how Curtis Axel was ruled out of the 2015 Rumble and, though Spike still counted as an entrant, he was unable to compete and he was never officially eliminated from the match.
So, technically, as Spike never entered a Rumble match again, he is one of just four official entrants who has never been eliminated.
#1 Bastion Booger
In 1994, the traditional Royal Rumble 10-second counter ticked down, the buzzer went off, and the packed Providence crowd were eagerly awaiting the 25th entrant in the match. Nobody appeared.
Bret Hart was the man who everybody wanted to win the Rumble that year but, due to an injury earlier in the show, his participation was thrown into doubt. It was explained by Vince McMahon, the commentator, that #25 must have been Bret and that the injury forced him to miss his spot.
However, after Bret entered at #27 and went on to be crowned co-winner of the Rumble with Lex Luger, it was later explained that the 401lbs Bastion Booger was due to appear at #25 but he overate before the show and got food poisoning.
In reality, Booger was reported to have no-showed the event and that was WWE’s way of trying to cover for him. Still, he is classed by the company as an entrant and he was never eliminated, so it just goes to show that even the most unlikely of performers can write their name into the Rumble record books!
