Netflix recently dropped its new docuseries, Mr. McMahon, featuring the successful yet controversial Vince McMahon. While the series explored the business of professional wrestling, it also detailed interesting stuff about the former WWE Chairman's personal life.
Vince McMahon is best known as WWE Chairman and an on-screen authority figure on television. Despite not being an in-ring star, the 79-year-old's character is highly influential, and his name is well-known in mainstream media, for better or worse. While he has had a successful business run, his childhood wasn't always hunky-dory.
For this list, we will look at four things we learned about Vince McMahon's childhood from Netflix's Mr. McMahon docuseries:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#4. Vince McMahon met his father more than a decade after being born
Vince McMahon's father, Vincent J. McMahon Sr., is also no stranger to professional wrestling. The latter used to run the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which his son later brought and renamed the World Wrestling Federation, which was later renamed as World Wrestling Entertainment. Despite their bond as wrestling promoters, they didn't share a typical father-son relationship.
In the docuseries, Vince Jr. shared that his father was considered the best promoter in professional wrestling. However, growing up, Vince didn't know that his last name was McMahon until he met his father at the age of 12.
#3. Vince McMahon had an abusive stepfather
In the first episode of the docuseries, Vince shared that he grew up in a trailer park with his mother, Victoria, and a "certain stepfather who was abusive!"
The former WWE Chairman recalled how he was physically abused daily, adding that one just had to live with that type of situation until one could find a way to escape. The 79-year-old also shared that while receiving physical abuse from his stepfather, he wasn't contacted by his biological father.
#2. Vince McMahon did not have the best experience meeting his father for the first time
After more than a decade, Vince Jr. finally met his father, but their first exchange wasn't something he expected.
The former Chairman recalled that his father had a "glow" when he first saw McMahon Sr. Vince recalled running to his father with open arms, expecting a big hug, but got a pat on the back instead. Despite this, the 79-year-old "fell in love" with his father right away. He also added that they never discussed why McMahon Sr. was absent during the latter's initial years on the planet.
#1. Vincent K. McMahon wasn't much of a wrestling fan until he met his father
The former WWE CEO shared that he "never saw much wrestling" until he met his dad. After Vince realized what his father did for a living, he liked the idea of seeing larger-than-life individuals getting physical to settle their differences.
Vince added that wrestling somewhat became the common denominator between him and his father in addition to their shared blood.
