WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes was brutally injured by Kevin Owens after the former retained the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The American Nightmare was stretchered out of the arena as Owens posed with the Winged Eagle belt before the crowd.

While it remains unclear when Rhodes will be returning, there’s a possibility that his next title defense will be his last. Here are four reasons why the Undisputed WWE Title will soon change hands.

#4. Cody Rhodes might not be completely fit for his next match

Cody Rhodes prides himself on being a wrestler who rarely misses showing up and fighting for the WWE Universe. Owing to this work ethic, The American Nightmare even fought Seth Rollins with a torn pectoral muscle in a Hell in a Cell match in 2022 and emerged victorious.

Rhodes might try to pull off another such feat when he faces Kevin Owens the next time. However, as of now, he has been injured by a banned pro wrestling move. Moreover, KO has been very ferocious and wouldn’t shy away from taking advantage of the injury. Thus, The Prizefighter could finally end The American Nightmare's reign and begin The Canadian Dream.

#3. Fans have not been unanimously behind Rhodes lately

Cody Rhodes built himself into a top-tier wrestler for several years and finally managed to win the Undisputed WWE Championship to finish his story. While the fans were behind him throughout his journey, the effect seems to be fading lately.

The WWE Universe seemingly doesn’t have as many Cody supporters right now, and the torch could be passed onto Kevin Owens by the company. KO is also on the bad side of Triple H right now, so the company could introduce a storyline of a disliked champion.

#2. Kevin Owens has white-hot momentum on his side

Kevin Owens always creates a big impact each time he turns heel. This time, several fans and wrestlers have been resonating with KO’s story. Besides, The Prizefighter had shown twice that destruction and carnage were all he cared about, and he desperately wanted the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Owens is also a sworn enemy of The Bloodline. Both Solo Sikoa and Roman Reigns would be gunning for the title as soon as they were done with their Tribal Combat match. KO could become the perfect enemy for both of them to contest for the gold. Thus, the company could experiment a bit with Owens as the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

#1. The Rock foreshadowed that Cody Rhodes would lose his title

The Rock and Cody Rhodes have a big feud waiting to resume when The Final Boss returns to WWE. The Brahma Bull was unable to prevent The American Nightmare from dethroning Reigns on night two of WrestleMania XL. However, after Mania, he told Rhodes that he would be coming for him even if he would no longer be a champ in the future.

Thus, this could be a subtle foreshadowing by The Rock that Cody Rhodes would lose his championship before the former returns. However, the clash between these two men would still hold a lot of magnitude even if the Undisputed title wouldn’t be involved. Moreover, if the belt was taken out of the equation, WWE could make either superstar win and keep the fans on edge.

It would be interesting to see how long Cody Rhodes would be able to remain the Undisputed WWE Champion.
