Rollins was on fire when he last faced Lesnar as a heel, and now as a white-hot babyface, he needs one more opportunity.

There is no denying that back in 2014/2015, heel Seth Rollins was astoundingly awesome, from becoming the most hated heel on the roster after betraying his Shield brethren in the quest for champion glory to cashing in his Money in the Bank contract in arguably the greatest cash in of all time, Rollins was literally on fire.

Moreover, a pleasant highlight from Rollins heel run was his interactions with Brock Lesnar, as the upstart cocky Rollins came inches on many occasions to beating "the beast," but was unsuccessful each time due to his character's cowardly nature.

Fast forward three years later and Rollins is the hottest babyface on the Raw roster, as his transition from cowardly heel to unrelenting babyface, the evident work rate he puts into his matches and his popularity has grown immensely.

Thus, out of all the possible options to end Brock Lesnar's reign as Universal Champion, Rollins is the most logical and most popular bet. Lesnar and Rollins met once for the WWE Title back at Battleground 2015, but that match was abruptly interrupted by The Undertaker, and never correctly concluded.

Therefore, at Extreme Rules 2018 the number one contender match would have huge names in it, and now that Rollins has lost his IC Title, it only makes sense for him to transition into the main event scene. While WWE might be concerned with wrapping up Brock Lesnar centric narratives that includes the likes of Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns, Rollins stepping up to face a man he once feared will genuinely signify the evolution of his character, tie up his unfinished ark with Lesnar from three years ago and truly position him as Monday Night Rollins.
