January 2025 will mark the start of the farewell tour of WWE legend John Cena. The WWE RAW premiere on Netflix on January 6, 2025, is seemingly set to be the first stop of The Cenation Leader's tour.
John Cena is reportedly set to work the vast majority of the premium live events in 2025 and the Royal Rumble in Indianapolis on February 1 will be the first one the 16-time world champion will appear at.
Cena has already confirmed that he will show up at the Royal Rumble, but it is unknown yet what he will do in the event. With that in mind, we take a look a four things The Cenation Leader could do in the last Royal Rumble of his legendary career.
#4. John Cena could put Drew McIntyre over in a first-time-ever match
John Cena is one of the top faces in WWE, whereas Drew McIntyre has become one of the top heels in the business in his current run. The two megastars have not faced each other one-on-one ever before, so The Scottish Warrior could step up and challenge The Cenation Leader to a match.
During an appearance on The Masked Man Show back in August, the former World Heavyweight Champion made it clear that he would do whatever it took to get a match with Cena in 2025.
"There has never been a one-on-one match. If I have to drive management crazy, I'll drive them crazy. I'll drive John crazy. I'm going to get that match. I'll tear him apart. On the microphone, which not many people can do. In the ring. Send him packing, happy retirement. Hopefully, Punk along with him," Drew McIntyre said. [H/T - Fightful]
If this match happens, John Cena could put Drew McIntyre over and allow him to build some momentum and re-enter the title picture ahead of the Road to WrestleMania 41.
#3. He could take on Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship
Bron Breakker recently dethroned Jey Uso to re-claim the Intercontinental Championship. He will now take on Sheamus next week on RAW, with the title on the line.
WWE is expected to keep Breakker as the Intercontinental Champion going into the next year, thus John Cena could be his opponent at Royal Rumble.
Similar to McIntyre in August, Bron Breakker has already challenged the 16-time world champion to a match. There is a possibility that this could happen at the Royal Rumble PLE if Cena wants to put over an upcoming star on his way out.
#2. Cena challenges Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship
One of the main questions on John Cena's farewell tour is whether WWE will let him become a 17-time world champion and break Ric Flair's iconic record that has stood for ages.
If the answer is yes, it could happen at the Royal Rumble PLE. Cena could go after Gunther and get a title match. On this occasion, Goldberg could show up to distract Gunther and let The GOAT prevail and claim the title.
This way, not only will Cena break the record, but it will also set up a match between Goldberg and Gunther at WrestleMania 41, as the latter will seek revenge and try to end Goldberg's career on the big stage.
#1. Cena enters the Royal Rumble Match for the last time in his career
Given that this will be the last time that he will appear at the Royal Rumble, the most likely scenario is for him to enter the Royal Rumble Match itself.
Cena could show up at No. 30 and win the match, securing a title shot at WrestleMania 41, the final WrestleMania of his career. Keeping him in the title picture for The Grandest Stage of Them All is sure to bring in more eyeballs than ever, as he chases the record-breaking 17th world title in the process.
