WWE RAW and SmackDown both currently have a run-time of two hours, a major change for the former brand as they previously had an extra hour. However, that could change again once the new year comes around and the Monday show finds its new home on Netflix.
WWE RAW and SmackDown's two-hour runtime has received mixed reactions from fans. While many say that the current time limit is good since there are fewer meaningless segments and the action is faster-paced, some might also think the current runtime is more restrictive, causing storylines to be rushed, and fewer superstars to be featured. Now, with rumors stating that both shows will have a runtime of three hours next year, more changes can be expected.
For this list, we will look at four things that will happen if both WWE RAW and SmackDown run for three hours.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#4. More NXT stars might get called up to WWE RAW and SmackDown
NXT stars appearing on RAW and SmackDown now and then is not uncommon. Some even make the move from the developmental brand to the main roster outside of the WWE Draft. However, that is more viable if the shows are three hours long like before.
Due to the two-hour run time of the shows, fewer stars are advertised and featured prominently every week. Adding new NXT stars to the main roster wouldn't work in the current format as not only will they not be featured significantly, but they might also be taking away somebody else's spot.
#3. Midcarders might be featured better
The main issue WWE Superstars face with the two-hour run time is how they have less time to insert themselves into the mix. In the past, the main roster shows could showcase less popular names even for some "filler" matches and segments on television.
With a run time of only two hours, WWE RAW and SmackDown can only feature stars who are involved in a prominent storyline. Not only will it mean there are limited stars, but for fans, it may come off as repetitive and boring.
#2. Premium Live Event-level matches weekly
Premium Live Events can always guarantee a "big fight feel" and the bigger stage can make the match more exciting and important. However, some matches of this type can also occur every week on WWE RAW and SmackDown.
With both main roster shows only having a two-hour runtime, not only does it mean limited time for matches but fewer matches in itself. If it gets extended, there are more chances for the superstars and executives involved to prolong the action and not rush any of it.
#1. Better storytelling for The Bloodline
The Bloodline remains the hottest and most captivating storyline in all of wrestling today. Although the group has already gone through many changes in leadership and members, fans continue to support and watch what happens next every week. However, the two-hour limit on SmackDown is definitely felt.
Some parts of their storytelling feel a bit rushed. The Usos reunited with Roman Reigns and recently, even Sami Zayn. While many are happy to see the OG Bloodline together again, some teases and tension for fans after everything they've gone through would do them some good.
