Trick Williams missed out on an opportunity to become the number one contender for the WWE NXT Championship after he was attacked backstage. He had to withdraw from the fatal four-way, and it ended up being a triple threat match between Baron Corbin, Carmelo Hayes, and Dijak.
Carmelo Hayes walked out of the contest as the winner and maybe the man behind the heinous attack on Trick Williams. The former North American Champion was added to the triple threat match at the last minute, which possibly caused tension between him and Melo. Hayes was seemingly displeased with his friend's addition to the bout.
Carmelo Hayes recently revealed that he had removed all 'distractions' out of his way. It goes without saying that going up against this best friend was a hindrance for him, and taking out Williams was the best way to ensure his victory.
Although Hayes said he didn't play a role in Williams' attack, nobody admits to a crime unless caught red-handed. The four-time champion may soon emerge as the superstar who denied Williams a title opportunity.
Furthermore, when Carmelo Hayes reached the scene of Williams' attack, he removed the steel chair from the table before the officials could arrive. It's possible Hayes wanted to remove the weapon used for the assault before officials showed up and began questioning.
Cody Rhodes added Trick Williams to the match
Lately, main roster superstars have been making frequent appearances on NXT. In fact, Dominik Mysterio is the current NXT North American Champion, and Becky Lynch lost the NXT Women's Championship at Halloween Havoc Night One.
Another superstar who recently showed up in NXT was Cody Rhodes. He acted as the brand's general manager for one night, and his last decision in the role was to add Trick Williams to the abovementioned number one contenders match.
Hayes seemingly did not appreciate Rhodes' decision to add Williams to the contest, and could have tried to eliminate his friend from the equation.
