WWE Superstars are geared to fight and dismantle their opponents to gain victory. But at the end of the day, their main goal is not just to entertain but to ensure everybody involved in the match comes out in one piece.

Injuries are unavoidable in the wrestling industry no matter the precautions wrestlers take. At the moment, WWE Superstars like AJ Styles, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Ilja Dragunov, and more are currently inactive after sustaining a legitimate injury. However, there are moments when superstars were able to avoid injury due to their opponents saving them.

For this list, we will look at four times WWE Superstars saved fellow wrestlers from injuries.

#4. AJ Styles' quick thinking saved James Ellsworth

AJ Styles, James Ellsworth, and Dean Ambrose (aka Jon Moxley) were embroiled in an entertaining feud in 2016 on SmackDown. Although they were bitter enemies, The Phenomenal One saved James from what would have been a deadly injury.

During an October 2016 episode of SmackDown, both men had a singles match and in one instance, AJ floored James with a Styles Clash. However, Ellsworth positioned himself wrongly by tucking his chin in. Due to his quick thinking, Styles landed on his legs and not his knees to ensure that Ellsworth didn't end up injured.

#3. Gunther made a recent save at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event featured a Triple Threat match between Gunther, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship. The Ring General was expectedly brutal and physical, but he did save one of his opponents from a legitimate injury,

Towards the end of the match, Gunther tried to powerbomb Damian Priest onto the steel steps after transitioning from a sleeper hold. However, the latter's legs hit the steps and Priest almost fell on his neck on top of the steel steps, but the champion managed to power through and lift his opponent to deliver the proper powerbomb.

#2. Mustafa Ali was spared from a dangerous injury at WrestleMania 35

WrestleMania 35 featured an Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Due to the amount of stars present in the match, something was bound to go wrong. Fortunately for Mustafa Ali, this was prevented by Luke Harper (aka Brodie Lee).

During the match, Brodie was already on the apron and had held Ali up in mid-air in an attempt to eliminate him. Braun Strowman kicked Lee and caused both of them to fall. For Mustafa, this fall would have ended badly if his opponent hadn't landed properly.

#1. Chris Jericho was saved by Mr. Perfect in 1997

Chris Jericho has a lot of iconic moves that he has performed perfectly over the years. Still, there have been times when he messed up a move, especially in his earlier days of wrestling.

In December 1997, the star had a singles match against Mr. Perfect on WCW Nitro. The match was going well until Chris attempted a lionsault but couldn't rotate in midair like usual. He was going to land on his neck but fortunately, his opponent put his knees up to cushion the blow. However, in 2018, the former WWE star shared that Curt Hennig was always supposed to put his knees up.
