WWE has been around for around 70 years now, albeit under different names and different management. For the bulk of that time, the company was run by a McMahon, be it Jess, Vince Sr., or Vince Jr.

Today, the Stamford-based company is led creatively by Triple H but is owned and operated by TKO Group Holdings and Endeavor. Still, the lifeblood of the company remains the wrestlers, who are necessary to put on shows that fans can enjoy.

Hundreds and thousands of wrestlers have plied their trade for the company over the years, with plenty around to this very day. Many of those names went on to become world champions, Hall of Famers, and above all else: legends.

Naturally, legends eventually retire. Some come out of retirement, such as Goldberg, who hopes to have one more match to officially end his career on a high note. Others can't or refuse to return to the ring. This article will look at four legends who won't ever step back into the squared circle.

Below are four WWE legends who will never return for another match:

#4. Triple H is retired due to health complications

Triple H is an all-time great. He is a 14-time WWE World Champion. The Game is also a multi-time WrestleMania main eventer, a former Intercontinental Champion, and a former tag team champion. He has done almost everything there is to do.

Unfortunately, The King of Kings will never wrestle again. He suffered cardiac arrest back in 2021. Around six months later, Triple H revealed he was done with in-ring action and would focus on other roles in WWE.

Thankfully, he had spent the bulk of the previous decade running NXT and working behind the scenes. This prepared him to eventually take over the creative direction of the main roster.

#3. Shawn Michaels has a different role in WWE

Shawn Michaels is arguably the very best of all time. While he might not be the biggest draw in WWE history, nor has he had more world titles, when it comes to being a pro wrestler, there is arguably nobody better in history than Shawn. He was the best of the best.

The Heartbreak Kid retired from in-ring competition back in 2010 after losing a Streak vs. Career Match against The Undertaker at WWE WrestleMania. The Showstopper later returned for one match only, but he has otherwise remained retired.

Since then, Shawn has become a key figure behind the scenes. He is the Senior Vice President of Talent Development and is the creative head of NXT. Michaels has confirmed he will never step back into the ring, and it makes sense since he has such a big role in the company now anyway.

#2. Kurt Angle has too many health complications

Kurt Angle is one of the best wrestlers ever, much like the previous two entries. The former WWE Champion did a lot in his pro wrestling career, both in World Wrestling Entertainment and in TNA Wrestling. He was also an incredible amateur wrestler.

The Olympic Gold Medalist last wrestled five years ago at WrestleMania. He went one-on-one with Baron Corbin, ultimately losing to the now-former WWE Superstar. This was billed as Angle's retirement match.

While Kurt has teased coming out of retirement on more than one occasion, he recently confirmed that he would never wrestle again. Given that he had a broken neck before he even got into pro wrestling and suffered numerous injuries since then, this isn't a major surprise, albeit unfortunate news nonetheless.

#1. Batista is focused on his Hollywood career and won't tarnish his legacy

Batista was a monster in WWE. The big man was stronger and more physical than mostly everyone else in the company. His power and strength led The Animal to winning multiple world titles. He was also well known for being a member of Evolution.

The Animal last competed at WrestleMania, much like Kurt Angle. His bout also happened in 2019, when he wrestled and ultimately lost to Triple H in a No Holds Barred Match. This came after he had already found success in Hollywood.

Five years later, and Batista has continued to grow as an actor. While focused on his career, he still talks about WWE on occasion. The former World Heavyweight Champion did so just a few months ago when he expressed being content with how his career ended, meaning Hollywood may be the only place to see The Animal moving forward.
