AJ Lee has been away from WWE for almost a decade following her decision to retire in 2015. The former three-time Divas Champion seemingly has no interest in coming back to wrestling, but her husband's return a year ago might see AJ Lee come out of retirement soon.

On Wednesday, a report surfaced about WWE showing interest in seeing AJ come back, suggesting that it was up to the former Divas Champion to decide if she wanted to return.

"The answer to that is, as far as I know, WWE is totally on board for it, they would welcome it. She picks up the phone, she says 'I'm in,' they're going to say 'Yes, what took you so long?' I would say the only two people that probably know that answer are AJ Lee and CM Punk, and whatever that answer may be, it's up to them, so we'll see," WrestleVotes said on a recent Backstage Pass Live Q&A.

If the former WWE superstar is indeed set to return to the company after almost a decade, her first appearance could take place at a major premium live event, like the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 41.

With that in mind, we take a look at four female superstars who could face AJ Lee at WrestleMania 41 next April.

#4. Cora Jade

Cora Jade recently made her return to NXT, where she aligned with NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez against Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer. Before that, she was forced to miss time due to an injury she had sustained early in 2024.

Amid her hiatus, she reunited with CM Punk, and even commented on the latter's IG Live, asking The Best in the World where his wife was. This was not the first time that the former NXT Tag Team Champion talked about AJ Lee, as Cora Jade was among the female superstars who urged AJ to return to WWE.

Given that she is friends with both CM Punk and AJ Lee, Cora Jade could be the first in line to ask for a match at 'Mania if the former Divas Champion returns. It would also be the perfect opportunity for her to move to the main roster.

#3. Bayley

Bayley and AJ Lee have been friends for years and the former WWE Women's Champion has repeatedly said that she would love to see AJ back in WWE. Bayley recently said that she has so much respect for her good friend that she would let AJ eliminate her at the Royal Rumble.

The two stars had a match back in 2013 for the NXT Women's Championship when Bayley was taking her first steps in WWE. Almost a dozen years later, she opened up about why it would be great to have another match with Lee.

"I got to have a little five-minute match with her back in the day and she is so smooth and she’s so crisp... So having her back there as a professional would be really cool to see how our characters would work nowadays. But as an athlete, just to be in there with someone like her would be so much fun, especially at the level I’m at now [compared] to 2013 Bayley. She was just a deer learning how to walk," Bayley told The New York Times back in January.

If Lee is back at the Royal Rumble, she could eliminate Bayley and open the way for a dream match between the two at WrestleMania 41.

#2. Liv Morgan

Liv Morgan is the reigning Women's World Champion on WWE RAW and one of the top stars in the business. She was one of few female stars who tried to convince AJ Lee to come out of retirement and return to WWE.

The former Divas Champion even replied to Liv Morgan, Bayley, and Cora Jade, calling their pressure to return 'adorable'. If Lee eventually returns, she is expected to have a title match right away.

Thus, going after Liv Morgan would make sense here. In addition, it could see AJ Lee and CM Punk team up against Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio in a mixed tag team match.

#1. Roxanne Perez

The reigning NXT Women's Champion might be the top candidate to have a match with the former Divas Champion if she returns to WWE. She has a lot of respect for Lee and recently revealed that it would be a dream to face her.

"It's going, we're trying you know. Hopefully, one day, she'll come back and maybe we can all do something together. That would be, that would be like my dream. I can't retire until I have a match against AJ Lee. So you know, I can't be 80 years old wrestling either, so," Roxanne Perez said during an appearance at Ring Belle.

Perez could call AJ Lee out and start a feud with her, leading to a match at WrestleMania 41, which could be her debut match on the main roster.
