After setting the independent scene on fire during the early to mid-2000's, Samoa Joe became one of the pillars of TNA/ Impact Wrestling where he would work for almost a decade from 2005 to 2015. Joe would go on an undefeated streak early on in his TNA before losing his first match in the company against Kurt Angle, eighteen months after his debut match.

Joe would then go on to multiple Championships and headline several pay-per-views for the company before parting ways with them in February 2015.

On May 20, 2015, Joe made his much-awaited NXT debut at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable in the main event, getting involved in a heated staredown with Kevin Owens.

Joe would later win the NXT Championship from Finn Balor at an NXT live event on April 21, 2016. After successfully defending his title against Balor at NXT Takeover: The End, Joe lost his title to Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II before regaining it a few months later at NXT Takeover: Toronto, becoming the first superstar to win the NXT title twice.

Joe would then drop the belt to Nakamura in Osaka on December 3, 2016, making his second reign the shortest in NXT history.

Joe would then make his main roster debut at the RAW after the Royal Rumble in 2017, attacking Seth Rollins. Joe would then feud with Rollins and then unsuccessfully challenge for the Universal Championship twice.

Joe was drafted to SmackDown at the Superstar Shakeup earlier this year. Joe faced off against AJ Styles at SummerSlam 2018 but the match ended in a DQ. Joe would again challenge Styles at Hell in a Cell and Super ShowDown, but the former TNA champion came up short both times.

Despite being one of the hottest stars in the company, Joe has still not managed to get his hands on any major gold in the WWE. Many believed that Joe-Styles feud would end with the Samoan Submission Machine winning the WWE title but that has not been the case, with the company depriving the fans of a potentially excellent WWE champion once again.
