The new Daniel Bryan is the reigning WWE Champion of SmackDown Live, but he will be defending that title against AJ Styles on the Royal Rumble PPV. If Daniel Bryan loses the WWE Championship to the Phenomenal One, chances are high that he may try to enter the Royal Rumble match later in the night.
Number 30 is regarded by many to be the best position to win the match, and so the heel superstar will make efforts to take that spot. Also, Daniel Bryan has had issues with R-Truth on SmackDown Live in the recent past. WWE could use that background to explain why Daniel attacked R-Truth.

Bryan attacking Truth and then entering the match at #30 will surely draw nuclear heat towards him, and that's the only thing the bearded superstar needs to become the top heel of the company.
