This year is significant for WWE, as the company aims to cash in on its current momentum. The promotion entered the Netflix era recently, as its weekly flagship show, Monday Night RAW, made a tremendous shift to the global streaming giant. Amid the brimming star power, former WWE Champion AJ Styles might announce his in-ring retirement this year after a recent unfortunate update.

The Phenomenal One has been out of action since suffering a severe injury last year. In October 2024, Styles returned to WWE TV after nearly six months and faced Carmelo Hayes in a singles match on Friday Night SmackDown. However, the veteran suffered a Lisfranc injury during the encounter. He has since been out of action. The 47-year-old recently posted a picture of himself in a cold plunge on his Instagram, signaling that he is on the road to recovery.

Later, a fan asked AJ Styles on X (Twitter) about an update regarding The Phenomenal One's potential in-ring return. The SmackDown star admitted that ''this injury is challenging.''

As a result, it appears the 47-year-old superstar may announce his in-ring retirement this year. That said, this is speculative at this point.

Wrestling legend claims AJ Styles is a sure-shot WWE Hall of Famer

While it's unknown if The Phenomenal One will return to the squared circle, there's no doubt he has left a lasting impact on fans in the Stamford-based promotion. Styles has had a great career in the Sports Entertainment juggernaut so far, and many believe that he has certainly cemented his place among the greatest of all time.

During a recent interaction on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, WCW legend Diamond Dallas Page called AJ Styles a ''first-ballot'' Hall of Famer.

"AJ [Styles] is one of the greatest of all time and absolutely first-ballot Hall of Famer. I mean, he's phenomenal for shoot [for real], and there are times I'll just text him over the years, and I was like, 'You really are Superman!'" DDP said.

It will be interesting to see if the TNA legend returns to WWE TV in the coming months.
