With WWE Backlash culminating in a huge success, the company now has to exceed expectations for its next big event, Night Of Champions. Announced to be held at the Jeddah Superdome on May 27, this will be the 11th time the promotion has traveled to Saudi Arabia. The eagerly-awaited Premium Live Event will showcase every WWE title on the line, confirming that no champion's reign is truly safe. This will be the 10th event of the Night Of Champions series and the first since its revival in 2015.
This means that the majority of the roster will have to sit back and watch the top contenders for each title battle it out in the ring. A lot has changed in 8 years since the last Night of Champions PLE, as a handful of those who competed in 2015 have moved on to a rival promotion, namely AEW.
#5. Neville (a.k.a. PAC)
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Neville's presence in the WWE was short but impactful, only lasting 3 years after his main roster debut on March 30, 2015. The Man Who Gravity Forgot quickly became known for his high-flying and acrobatic wrestling moves, making him an eagerly-anticipated performer.
He found himself in a feud with Cody Rhodes's previous persona, Stardust. This resulted in a pre-show match at Night of Champions where Neville and the Lucha Dragons could not overcome Stardust and the Ascension. Despite the loss, the AEW star was acknowledged for his impressive flying antics by fans and colleagues alike.
#4. Rusev (a.k.a. Miro)
Rusev, the Bulgarian Brute, had an undefeatable aura surrounding him during his time in the WWE alongside his manager, Lana. He squashed almost every opponent during his first months in the promotion and went on to win the United States Championship from Sheamus in 2014.
Rusev became entangled in a storyline that included his manager, Dolph Ziggler, and Summer Rae. Lana and Rusev began to disagree during matches after receiving bad results. Ziggler would become Lana's storyline beau while Rae began her on-screen relationship with Rusev. The feud culminated after their match at Night of Champions when Ziggler pinned the Bulgarian Brute.
#3. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is a decorated WWE icon, with numerous championships under his belt, including the WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, and the Intercontinental Championship. He also participated in several high-profile matches and feuds against some of WWE's biggest stars.
Jericho was revealed to be Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose's mystery partner in their match against the Wyatt Family during the 2015 Night of Champions PLE. Unfortunately, it was a losing effort, with Jericho walking out on the remaining Shield members after the fight.
#2. Dean Ambrose (a.k.a. Jon Moxley)
One-third of the legendary Shield stable, Dean Ambrose was a fan favorite alongside his stable members Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. He demonstrated that his in-ring abilities were up to par with his partners, and he rose to the top of the roster with them. Unfortunately, cracks began to break the group apart as he feuded with Rollins.
In 2015 he suffered a narrow loss to his former teammate in a ladder match at Money in the Bank. Later that year, Ambrose rejoined Roman Reigns in a feud against the Wyatt Family. They were able to grab a win during SummerSlam but at Night of Champions, alongside Chris Jericho, the team was beaten by the hands of Wyatt, Harper and Strowman.
#1. Sting
The Hall of Famer made his WWE debut in 2014 at Survivor Series, though his time in the company did not last for long. After only a few matches, the tenured wrestler challenged Seth Rollins and was given a chance at the WWE Championship.
During Night of Champions, fans were left worried after a botched move forced Sting to stumble and collapse in the middle of the ring. Seth Rollins performed a Buckle Bomb and unfortunately, The Icon suffered a severe neck injury. This marked the end of Sting's career in WWE, and the wrestling community was shocked to see his return to the industry through AEW.
It is uncertain how long Sting will continue to compete and given his age, it is only a matter of time before we begin to hear of retirement plans for The Icon.
