5 believable ways in which Finn Balor could defeat Brock Lesnar

In the latest episode of RAW, Vince McMahon scrapped Braun Strowman's Universal title match against Brock Lesnar and scheduled a fatal 4-way match to crown the new challenger. To most people's surprise, Finn Balor overcame all the odds and defeated John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin to advance to the Royal Rumble as the number one contender to the Universal title.

However, one thing WWE has taught us regularly in the past is that Vince McMahon prefers bigger guys to smaller wrestlers. In such a situation, the lopsided physique of Balor and Lesnar might be a huge problem. Even though we are happy for Balor's opportunity, not many of us give Balor a fair chance to reclaim the title he never lost.

Since Lesnar works well with smaller guys, there is no doubt about the quality of the match these two can put together. But RAW would be objectively better off with Finn Balor as the champion.

Hence, in this article, we will be taking a look at five plausible scenarios in which Finn Balor can beat Brock Lesnar and become the new Universal Champion.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

#1. A repeat of 2004

As mentioned earlier, Vince McMahon loves bigger men. But that does not mean bigger men always win in a battle against the smaller athletes. Brock Lesnar knows this first hand because he lost his WWE Championship to Eddie Guerrero in such a fashion. At No Way Out 2004, Goldberg lent a hand to the Latino Heat, who clinched his first world title in WWE.

Similarly, WWE could stage Brock Lesnar's eventual Wrestlemania opponent to cost him the title. Braun Strowman, The Rock, or anyone else could stir a feud with Lesnar by costing him the title. The scenario is identical to the one that happened fifteen years ago.

#4. A Ladder or steel cage match

Just like any professional wrestling promotion, WWE treats pinfall and submission victories very seriously. Thus, if WWE is keen to protect someone, but at the same time, have his opponent go over, they book Steel Cage or ladder matches.

The most recent example of such an instance is the TLC match between Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka for the Smackdown Women's championship. Lynch was the most popular superstar on the roster that time and having her take the pinfall would be disastrous. Thus, WWE made the title change without a pinfall victory.

A similar stipulation could be applied here also. Balor, who is known for his quickness and agility could easily outspeed Brock Lesnar. Thus it would be easier for the former Universal Champion to escape the cage or scale a ladder to unstrap the title rather than pinning the beast.

#3. A no DQ match

Brock Lesnar is a part-timer who does not care about WWE or any of the WWE superstars, and refuses to show up or fight anyone unless the time and money are right - WWE has been reasserting this point throughout last 12 months. Roman Reigns has used this point in his promos in the build-up to their match at Wrestlemania 34. Seth Rollins has been throwing this point around for the past few weeks.

Thus, it would only be poetic justice if some of the RAW superstars join forces in a no DQ match to help Finn Balor bring back the Universal title home to RAW.

A similar scenario was used at TLC 2018. Since Braun Strowman was not medically cleared to fight Baron Corbin, he used the help of every superstar who was tormented by Corbin's authority. A similar storyline could be used here.

#2. Balor Club reunites

Finn Balor could always join forces with his former Bullet Club allies to dethrone the Beast. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are sitting on Smackdown LIVE without doing anything worthwhile in the last few weeks. Since the Royal Rumble is a co-branded event and both the Good Brothers could be making an appearance for the 30 man Royal Rumble match, it is entirely possible that Balor may call for reinforcements if that is the best way to reclaim the Universal Championship.

However, there is a reason why Brock Lesnar has been the Universal Champion for so long. WWE built Lesnar as the unbeatable monster heel for one reason only - to give the eventual superstar who beats Lesnar a huge rub and propel him to the main event. All four methods mentioned previously are in direct contradictions with this reason. Thus, we need a fifth scenario that ticks all the boxes.

#1. The Demon vs. the Beast

Finn Balor is a small wrestler who smiles way too much and loses many matches. Brock Lesnar, on the other hand, is a sadistic heel who loves to torment his opponents and barely loses. Apparently, Balor needs to step up his game to have any chances at slaying the beast and becoming the new Universal Champion.

However, Demon Balor, the alter-ego of Finn Balor, is the polar opposite of Balor. WWE protects the Demon incredibly. The Demon has just lost one match in WWE and that was in NXT, to Samoa Joe.

In the main roster, the Demon is yet to be defeated and boasts of convincing wins against the likes of AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, and Baron Corbin. If Balor were to unleash his demons, we would have a credible threat to Brock Lesnar's reign as the Universal Champion.
