WWE Champion Bobby Lashley defended the title against former champion Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior's spectacular WrestleMania 37 entrance marked the first WWE Superstar entrance in front of a live crowd on WWE television for over 12 months.
However, once the match began, McIntyre and Lashley didn't hold back in going toe-to-toe in an incredibly physical and brutal bout. Drew McIntyre seemingly had the match won as he was setting up to hit the Claymore Kick finisher on the WWE Champion. But, Lashley's manager MVP distracted Drew McIntyre long enough for Bobby Lashley to move to safety.
This led to the closing moments of the match in which Bobby Lashley was finally able to lock in his Hurt Lock submission hold onto his opponent. Despite his best efforts to fight out of the hold, Drew McIntyre was unable to break the Hurt Lock, causing him to lose consciousness. Therefore, Bobby Lashley shockingly retained the WWE Championship via technical submission.
