Botchamania. As an ardent fan of the art that is professional wrestling, maybe you have heard of this word. A botch in wrestling terminology means when a move in a match or a line in a promo or a moment in an entrance does not go on according to plan due to, well, mistakes. Botching a wrestling move may be dangerous but botching a line or a word in a promo is just priceless. It’s as funny it can get in the WWE. Also, embarrassing sometimes.
Throughout the years, there have been many epic fails when it comes to creating such a blooper reel. This may well be the best part and the bane of executing a show on live television.
There are some who have done it more than once. It’s hilarious and all of us, including them, know it. Here are the 5 WWE Live TV fails:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Wrestlemania Moment
Hulk Hogan created a Wrestlemania moment which wasn’t at all planned. Hogan made his entrance as the host of Wrestlemania 30 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
That Wrestlemania will be remembered for a Once In A Lifetime moment with Hogan, Austin and Rock being in the same ring, Undertaker losing his streak and Bryan main eventing Wrestlemania and winning it.
It will also be remembered for the first few words spoken by Hogan.
Hogan went back in time and addressed the Superdome as the ‘Silverdome’- the arena for Wrestlemania 3. The audience chanted the actual name and then Hogan hilariously realized his mistake and corrected it. Hogan became a classic face for Botchamania.
Genesis of Mcgillicutty
Whoever came up with this last name needs to be asked what they were smoking. It was difficult to pronounce as it is. The man has been repackaged as Curtis Axel and he tried to make Axelmania run wild.
But when he was on NXT, back when it was a contest show, he had the chance to cut a promo. It was hilarious as he spent so much time trying to describe a moment, paraphrasing it at least 3 times.
Just watch the video.
Mean, Mean Gene
Was it adorable or was it just plain hilarious?
Gene Okerlund is a legend when it comes to being an interviewer in the WWE. Many Summerslams ago, he was interviewing Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan when the poster of Summerslam behind him inadvertently fell off. It looked harmless and couldn’t have hurt anybody, so it seemed. It heavily distracted Mean Gene, who turned around and uttered the F- word on live television.
It became a classic, memorable moment breaking kayfabe back then.
Botcher T
Unlike Mean gene, Booker T did not utter the F-Word. He uttered the N-Word.
Stevie Ray and Booker T were backstage for an interview with Mean Gene. Sensational Sherri was their manager. The interview began with Booker T essentially saying that he’s going to take the title away from Hulk Hogan. But in that rush of cutting that promo, Booker T ended it calling Hogan the N-Word. He immediately put his hands over his head and turned around to look at Sensational Sherri who gave a quaint smile.
Vicious Botch
Sid Vicious has had many promo fails but none like the one where he was being interviewed by Jim Ross. He said a few words, fumbled and jumbled them away. And then he asked Ross if they could to a retake to which Ross emphatically replied that they’re on live TV.
As much as it was hilarious, it was also humiliating. We could see that on Sid’s face.
Vicious has given us some very memorable moments. This being one of them.
