Shane McMahon has been absent from WWE television for a while now, and him returning to be the special guest referee in the match between Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns is an odd choice indeed, as the man is the boss over on Raw's rival brand, Smackdown Live. But Shane being chosen as the official by the request of his sister Stephanie could have been a smart move by WWE.

With Survivor Series coming up, WWE is going to start the pretentious war between Raw and Smackdown Live, so why not use this match to ignite the flame naturally. Shane could've got his Smackdown Live mercenaries to destroy this match for the simple reason that he is sick of Smackdown Live's WWE Championship not main eventing one pay-per-view this year. It's a logical reason, and it builds up Survivor Series in a natural manner, and it allows Reigns and Strowman to both save credibility by not taking the loss
