While it likely won't make breaking WWE news, Cesaro recently announced that he would be heading to Wales this weekend to check out TakeOver: Cardiff, and it's got plenty of wrestling fans buzzing. While we don't know if this is a permanent move or even if The Swiss Superman will get involved in the action when NXT UK heads to Wales, but it's safe to say that it would be a great move.
For years now, Cesaro has been criminally underused on the main roster, and while NXT UK may be seen as a step down, it would be a chance for him to prove to everyone in the world why he's considered one of the best.
So without further ado, sit back and read along as we take a look at Cesaro venturing over to the UK to visit NXT UK, and talk about 5 matches that we NEED to see while he's there.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 Mark Andrews
Mark Andrews is one of the most underrated performers in all of WWE, and it's about time that NXT UK got behind him and truly valued his character and incredible, innovative talent inside the ropes. If you've followed the indie career of 'Mandrews', you know that he does his best work against bigger opponents (see his Progress match with Chris Hero for a perfect example), and Cesaro would be the perfect foil for his 'Stage Diving and High Fiving'.
While Andrews is great through the air, he's also quite proficient as a technical performer, and we've seen what that skillset can do opposed to Cesaro with the likes of Sami Zayn. It also looks like Cesaro has an edge to him as he heads to Wales, so a heel run in NXT UK would be fantastic. However, the trip to the UK wouldn't be complete without a matchup against one of NXT UK's originals.
#4 Eddie Dennis
While many people in WWE right now are fantastic with promos, Eddie Dennis is just as good, if not better. If he gets the chance to rise through NXT UK, he could be one of the brand's biggest stars long-term.
The 'Pride of Wales' is currently out injured, but when he returns, Dennis should slot right back in, and targeting a big name like Cesaro would immediately make him a big time star in NXT UK.
Before the injury, Dennis was being built up quite heavily by NXT UK, including a big time singles contest with Dave Mastiff at TakeOver: Blackpool, and while he'll be out for some time yet, Cesaro is the perfect opponent on return. Dennis has a great look, size, can talk and is a talent in between the ropes, and whether he goes on to the main roster or not, he'll make quite a lot of money for WWE as a top heel in the coming years.
#3 Kassius Ohno
Going back to his days on the independents, Cesaro has made many friendships and partnerships, but none were as good inside the ropes as the one with Kassius Ohno, then known as Chris Hero. Together, they were the Kings of Wrestling. The duo tore it up all over the United States, but signing with WWE fractured that partnership, and while the two pairing up again in NXT UK makes sense, they should have a big time matchup first.
Given Ohno's status within WWE (it's highly unlikely that he'll ever move up to the main roster alone), this is the only time they'll have the chance to have a match, and it would be amazing. If they were again to pair up, we may see the Kings of Wrestling run rampant over any brand in WWE, but before they get to that, for the fans and for themselves, we'd love to see these two go at it for 15-minutes on more time.
#2 Pete Dunne
Pete Dunne is the biggest UK star in WWE right now, and despite the fact that he's seemingly moved to NXT proper in the last few weeks, a dream match with Cesaro in the UK would be a money bout. Dunne has been on a roll since he took the UK title from Tyler Bate way back in Chicago, and if he isn't going to be pushed hard on the main roster anytime soon, bringing a star like Cesaro to him makes complete sense.
We don't know when the next TakeOver event will be for the NXT UK brand, but this would make for an incredible match. Plus, it would bring more eyes to the product, which WWE need right now. This match is definitely going to happen at some point in the future, so having it in NXT where performers are given more freedom would be ideal, and the WWE would be wise to set the stage for a future clash this weekend.
#1 WALTER
For years now, WALTER has been one of Europe's top independent performers, and when he arrived in NXT on the first UK TakeOver, he became a force to be reckoned with on the biggest stage. He conquered the longest reigning Champion in WWE's modern era in Pete Dunne, to capture the WWE UK Championship, and since that point, few on the brand have managed to combat him. Cesaro would be the perfect challenge.
He will be taking on Tyler Bate in the main event of TakeOver: Cardiff, and The Swiss Superman will no doubt be keeping his eye on that bout, as either man would be a great opponent for Cesaro. WALTER hasn't faced anyone with the size, strength and athleticism of Cesaro to this point, and while Dunne and Bate are incredible performers, they just aren't at the level of Cesaro to this point, and it has to happen in the very near future.
