Back in 2010, during the season 2 finale of WWE NXT, it was revealed that WWE veteran Goldust would be a part of NXT's third season, and would take on the role of a pro for Aksana. Soon after, Goldust proposed to Aksana. The rookie was about to be deported from the country at the time, and the wedding would have been a way to counter the law.
On the November 2 edition of NXT, Goldust and Aksana were married. The legendary Dusty Rhodes, and Goldust's brother Cody were also in attendance. Immediately after the marriage was made official, Aksana slapped Goldust and left the ring in a hurry, leaving him heartbroken and alone. Soon after, Goldust confronted his wife about what had happened. Aksana revealed that the only reason she decided to marry him was that it prevented the country from deporting her. A furious Goldust put Aksana in a match with Naomi, which she lost. Aksana was eventually eliminated from the contest on November 16, but made a return on the season finale two weeks later.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
