Cody, the son of Dusty Rhodes, was always subject to criticism, even when AEW Dynamite started airing on TNT.

Not only does he hold backstage responsibilities, but Cody has to back it up in the ring as well. He defeated Lance Archer in the final round of the TNT Championship Tournament at Double or Nothing, and even that got some criticism from AEW fans.

As much as one would like to believe that Cody was served this position on a silver platter, that is simply not the case. He cut a passionate promo about how holding such a title comes with certain responsibilities as well, and in order to make his TNT title run memorable, Cody issued a weekly open challenge to prove his critics wrong.

Sure, Lance Archer's momentum may have suffered a little in order to make this happen, but after this week's AEW Dynamite, it became clear that AEW management had big plans in store, and Cody was the perfect representative of what TNT expects from AEW's weekly content.
