It all changed on the January 22 episode of ECW, where Chavo defeated CM Punk in a No DQ match to bag the ECW World title, following interference from WWE's top heel, Edge. At WrestleMania 24, a battle royal was held to determine the #1 contender for Chavo's title, which was won by Kane. Later in the night, Kane defeated Guerrero in 11 seconds to become the new ECW Champion.

He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
