WWE TLC 2016 is done and dusted, and a few rather large developments have transpired. The biggest incident involved James Ellsworth turning on the only ally he’s had in WWE up to this point. His interference impacted the outcome of the main event, so it’s a certainty that he’ll have to answer for that sin.
Another note-worthy incident in the PPV was Alexa Bliss capturing the SmackDown Women’s Championship by slamming Becky Lynch through a table. In addition to all this, the new Wyatt Family winning the Tag Team Championships made this night an eventful one.
Along with the good, there must also come the silly. Like any WWE show, there were awkward moments that are almost inescapable, due to the spontaneous nature of a live show. TLC was not immune to these moments, and the WWE World Champion’s pants served as the best evidence of this fact.
There were other outrageous moments, including a hilarious comment from Mauro after a couple of Miz low blows and a certain luchador who tried his best to find the most well-hidden chair in all of WWE.
Read on to witness the best botches, slip ups, and outrageous moments from WWE TLC 2016.
#5 Kalisto can’t find any chairs
I’ll give Kalisto credit because he came to the ring ready to take the fight to Baron Corbin. Since this was a Chairs Match, he immediately exited the ring upon arrival and began looking for the chairs. The only problem for Kalisto was that he couldn’t find any.
Kalisto scoured under the ring searching for chairs, only to turn around and realise that they literally surrounded the ring.
#4 Let Mauro announce everything
Miz retained his Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler and since he’s the bad guy, a couple of kicks below the belt were his final bits of offence. It was a Ladder Match, so it’s all legal, but it’s still a jerk way to win.
Mauro Ranallo always knows the perfect thing to say, so as we watched Dolph writhe in pain while halfway up two ladders, he uttered the line above. Referring to Dolph’s little Ziggler as the “peninsula south of the equator” had me laughing. We can all agree that Mauro’s the best, right?
#3 Fan reaction of the night
WWE has made a habit of including close-up shots of individual fan reactions, after big moves, but during TLC these unique shots were also shown in replays. My favourite fan reaction of the night was, undoubtedly, this shocked fellow in a Santa Claus hat.
He might be making a goofy face here, but considering this was immediately after A.J. Styles performed a springboard 450 out of the ring onto Dean Ambrose through a table, his expression is totally understandable.
You keep doing your thing, fan in a Santa hat. You were all of us, in this moment.
#2 An unwise DDT
It’s hard to criticise someone who competes in a Tables Match on a WWE PPV and wins, but this move just seemed unwise on Alexa Bliss’ part. It wasn’t a botch or anything because she effective nailed the DDT that she was attempting, but the landing here just had to hurt.
Dropping flat on your back while a table is turned upside down will always be silly, because of the metal lining one is bound to hit. Bliss probably hurt herself more than Becky Lynch on this move.
#1 More of Styles than you can handle
A.J. Styles likes to be called the “New face that runs the place” as well as the “Champ that runs the camp”, but after TLC, we might have to start calling him the “Rump That Made Dean A Chump.”
After taking a ridiculously insane inverted release suplex onto several propped up chairs, Styles’ pants sold the effects of the move by splitting just enough to reveal his ‘cheeky’ side. Perhaps they can print some new shirts for the WWE World Champion that reads “The Cheek That Wants A Peek.”
Okay, if my butt-puns aren’t working for you, then check out Noelle Foley’s take on A.J.’s theme song. She tweeted out these newly-tweaked lyrics after the show ended:
