Over the past few years, R-Truth has portrayed a character on WWE TV that has been there for some of the comedy relief moments. Truth memorably came into the Royal Rumble match with a ladder and was even able to get Brock Lesnar to crack a smile when he broke character on RAW earlier this year.
WWE has pushed Truth into the WWE 24/7 Championship picture over the past few years, a title that he has held a record 37 times.

The only real reason that there are currently eyes on WWE's 24/7 Championship picture is because R-Truth has been able to deliver some hilarious segments that have made it worth tuning in.
This wouldn't be possible if Truth was a heel since the segments would make much less sense, whilst he's the Champion looking over his shoulder. There are many more ideas and options for the company to get him over than there would be if he was a heel, much like Akira Tozawa looking to reclaim the Championship from the current holder.
