We were promised explosive action, but the eventual results were disappointing

As a result of the dynamics that exist in a Royal Rumble match, it is hardly ever a boring affair. That said, this year’s Royal Rumble was simply underwhelming. Roman Reigns became the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion to defend his title in a Royal Rumble Match. This was after he had snapped at Survivor Series, taking on The Authority.
It could have been the ideal career jumpstart for a new talent from NXT or an opportunity to give someone from the mid card a renewed career push. Instead, the middle-aged man with the shovel would eliminate Dean Ambrose and become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the 14th time. We are talking about The King of Kings – Triple H, of course.
In addition to this, Roman Reigns would spend most of this match in the backstage area with a kayfabe injury. It didn’t help that the WWE Universe wanted the debuting AJ Styles to win this 30 man match, over other WWE talent.
