At Money in the Bank, Samoa Joe lost the United States title to Rey Mysterio, who won the title for the first time in his long career, becoming the 21st Grand Slam champion.

The match didn't last long as Mysterio won it under two minutes and had a controversial finish. Joe's shoulders were up but the referee still counted to three and Mysterio became the United States champion.
Joe was busted open in the match after Mysterio landed on his nose.
