Keep in mind that the current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre himself is in favor of working with Orton, revealing the following in another recent interview:

"There's a reason I want to work with him for the world title because I want to learn. Because there aren't too many guys around anymore that have learned from the best. Been around for a long time and can really pull you up. So, anybody that works with him will absolutely benefit."

Yes, McIntyre only retained his WWE title at Backlash after Lana's appearance distracted Bobby Lashley. So The All Mighty could ask for a rematch. Having said that, there's no reason why Randy Orton couldn't be next in line for a shot at the WWE Championship.
