Six months later, the WCW icon suffered a serious neck injury against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions, leading him to announce his retirement during his Hall of Fame induction in April 2016.
Will Sting return to WWE?
Speaking to Wrestling Travel in March 2019, Sting said he would be open to coming out of retirement to face a fellow legend who he never crossed paths with in his career, The Undertaker.
"I mean, everyone knows who it would be. Taker, he’s the only guy I’d come out of retirement for now. No one else. We could just never get it together to make it happen."
Since that comment, WWE has continued to tease a possible Sting vs. The Undertaker match, with the company’s YouTube channel releasing a ‘What If?’ video in July 2019.
