#1 With his ROH status in question, is now the time for Marty Scurll to sign with AEW?
This time last year, if there was one thing for certain in the minds of AEW fans everywhere, it was that Marty Scurll would be signing with AEW once his contract with Ring of Honor expires.
To the shock of just about everyone, Scurll chose to sign a new multi-year deal with ROH instead to not only stay on as an in-ring performer but to also take over the creative aspect of the company going forward. At the time it seemed like a huge win for Ring of Honor while fans of AEW were left scratching their heads trying to figure out what exactly happened with the company and the Villain.
A year later and it's almost like things are back to square one. Over the Summer of this year, Scurll and several other wrestling talents were caught in the "Speaking Out" movement over social media. A variety of punishments were levied out in every wrestling company to varying degrees. There wasn't a single company that didn't feel the impact of this event, including AEW and ROH.
Scurll has been social media silent since June after releasing a series of statements online. While Ring of Honor refuses to comment on the contract status of the Villain at this time, it is worth pointing out that not only has he been removed from their website's roster page, his ex-girlfriend Deonna Purrazzo was contacted about returning to the company after his removal from the website.
It doesn't take much to see that the puzzle pieces fit here and that Scurll was likely released from his ROH contract earlier this year quietly. With his friends in the Elite helping to run AEW as the EVPs, it seems like a safe landing place for a man who will absolutely need to rehab his image with the wrestling fanbase going forward.
Regardless of all this, one thing is for certain. Someone new is coming to AEW and they are arriving this Saturday at Full Gear. Who it might be, however, is anybody's guess.
