#3 AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho (Fastlane 2016)
AJ Styles' match against Chris Jericho at Fastlane was historic for several reasons. After The Phenomenal One's shocking debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble Match, Fastlane marked the first time Styles competed in a singles match on a WWE pay-per-view.
At the time, there was still doubt about how "good" Styles really was in the eyes of senior WWE officials. Of course, fans around the world had known Styles' ability in the ring for years due to his classic matches in IMPACT Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
But time and again, WWE has demonstarted that the past accomplishments of major independent wrestling stars mean nothing in the eyes of Vince McMahon.
As a result, there was a lot of pressure surrounding this match. Everyone wanted to see whether the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion could transition to the WWE style and win over the WWE Chairman.
Despite the weight placed on Styles' shoulders by fans and critics alike, The Phenomal One had the perfect opponent for his first pay-per-view match in Chris Jericho. Y2J is a seasoned professional with a plethora of classic matches and feuds to his name. He's often viewed as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, so it wasn't surprising when he stole the show with Styles.
Styles and Jericho produced a fantastic match filled with great technical wrestling, exemplary psychology and gripping false finishes. In one memorable near fall, Styles hit the Styles Clash for the first time in WWE on Y2J. Ultimately, Styles forced Jericho to submit to his Calf Crusher submission for the victory.
This Fastlane match was widely praised by fans and analysts alike, and it was a fantastic outing way for Styles' first WWE pay-per-view match to come to a close.
