The WWE Universe doesn't need to be constantly reminded that everything that happens inside the squared ring has been carefully planned and thought about by the company's famed creative teams. In a nutshell, it is scripted.
However, there have been instances that some of the most memorable moments were reared from off-the-cuff twinkles that created legacies that are now cherished and remembered by the wrestling fans today.
Sportskeeda Wrestling will look to relive those five extraordinary moments that etched the careers of those warriors in wrestling folklore.
#5 Shane McMahon - King of the Ring 2001
Shane McMahon might fool you with his rather innocent looks and his decent suit-and-tie outfit but the 48-year-old daredevil is one tough human being - a testament to that was his gruesome street fight match against Kurt Angle in the 2001 King of the Ring pay-per-view.
While his death-defying stunts are mostly scripted, McMahon's daredevil performance nearly17 years ago saw his head bounced off the glass ceiling after a suplex by Angle, which proved to be uncalled for.

Although that moment will now be best remembered as a warning advertisement before any WWE-related program starts, that could've easily ended the career of the SmackDown Live Commissioner.
#4 The Undertaker - Elimination Chamber 2010
Future Hall of Famer, The Undertaker has been to hell and back, while at the same time taking heart-stopping risks.
One of those dangers came in the 2010 Elimination Chamber where he was literally dressed up with fire after his jacket was burned due to an unfortunate pyrotechnics accident.
The Deadman sustained first and second degree burns to his neck and chest but the warrior he is, the 52-year-old many-time world champion still was able to compete in a Chamber match that was eventually won by the Chris Jericho.

The disastrous accident did not end the career of The Undertaker but it obviously gave the company a perspective on what could actually happen if everything goes to hell.
#3 Stone Cold Steve Austin- Wrestlemania XIII
Even though the Texas Rattlesnake has made a name for himself of being a hell-raiser and the bitterest in-ring rival of the McMahons, Stone Cold Steve Austin gained much prominence that elevated his status as one of the best in 1997 when he went up against The Hitman, Bret Hart.
The crimson carnage at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago featured one of the most - if not the most iconic moment in wrestling. One that showcased the image of Austin's bloody face screaming in pain while he was in the Sharpshooter submission maneuver.

But then again, the blood wasn't part of the original script since it was still not allowed in the WWE at around that time.
#2 Mankind - King of the Ring 1998
Mick Foley made a name for himself for his extreme style of wrestling but nothing was more extreme than his 1998 King of the Ring performance in which he was chokeslammed by The Undertaker through the cell from the top of the cage.
But surprisingly that dangerous instant was not supposed to happen. In an article written by famed broadcaster Jim Ross for Fox Sports, the incident definitely made Foley contemplate his return to wrestling.

Nonetheless, Foley's performance that night certainly paved the way for him to become one of the most polarizing icons in the rich history of the company.
#1 The Montreal Screwjob
Roswell, New World Order, Montreal Screwjob.
Those tales are as old as time and still being talked about in the modern era.
In a high-stakes match in the 1997 Survivor Series that featured erstwhile champion Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Shawn Michaels, the referee rang the bell and ruled that the former had tapped out from the Sharpshooter maneuver thus resulting into one of ugliest ways for the WWE Championship to change hands.

Prior to the match, Hart's contract with WWE was already expiring but the Calgary, Alberta native did not want to lose the belt in front of his countrymen. Unfortunately, WWE had other things going in their mind.
Although Hart and the company have already decided to bury the hatchet, the eventful pay-per-view still leaves the WWE Universe in utter disbelief to this day and has been subject to a number of conspiracy theories.
